1. How do I get a fire investigation report?

If you are the owner or occupant of the property in question, you may request a fire report by contacting the Office of Community Risk Reduction by phone at 404-612-8907. Be sure to have the date of the incident and the address on hand when you call.

2. How do I become a firefighter?

In order to become a firefighter with the Fulton County Fire and Rescue Department:

• You cannot have been convicted of a felony for the past 10 years
• You must be at least 18 years old
• You must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency
• You must pass a physical examination administered by the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness
• You must successfully pass a physical agility test administered by the Fire Department

3. Will the Fire Department fill up my swimming pool?

The Fulton County Fire and Rescue Department cannot fill your swimming pool. However, this can be accomplished by using your garden hose or contacting your water department.

4. Is the Fulton County Fire and Rescue Department the same as the Atlanta Fire Department?

While both departments are in the County of Fulton, the Fulton County Fire and Rescue Department and the Atlanta Fire Department are not the same. The Fulton County Fire and Rescue responds to emergencies in the unincorporated areas of Fulton County. The Atlanta Fire Department responds to emergencies inside the City limits of Atlanta.

To find the closest fire station to your house, visit the station page.

The quickest way to determine the distance of the closest fire hydrant is to simply locate the nearest hydrant and then measure the distance when driving back to your home. An approximate measurement is acceptable.

6. What is Fulton County’s ISO rating?

In the Fulton Industrial District the rating is 3. All others areas in Unincorporated Fulton County are a 4.

7. How many square miles is Fulton County and what is the population?

Fulton County is 528.7 square miles and has a total population of 816,006 people. Unincorporated South Fulton County is 107.3 square miles and has a population of 121,000.

8. Am I required to have a burn permit to burn leaves (debris) in my yard?

Outdoor burning is permitted between September 1st and April 30th. Burn permits are not required in Fulton County, however burning should be limited to leaves, sticks, or that which falls naturally from the trees. A garden hose should also be kept near the burn area.

9. Who do I report a leaking fire hydrant to?

Leaking fire hydrants in Unincorporated Fulton County should be reported to the Atlanta Watershed Department by phone at 404-658-7220 or 404-658-7221.

10. Does the Fulton County Fire and Rescue Department have volunteer firefighters?

The Fulton County Fire and Rescue Department does not currently have a volunteer program.

11. Why are there times when no firefighters are at the fire stations?

There are many reasons that there could be no one at a fire station when you stop by. The firefighters may have responded to an emergency call, they may be conducting a building inspection, fire hydrant inspections, or may be participating in a training exercise at another location, just to name a few.
