[ARCHIVED] Help Shape the City's Vision Through Comprehensive Plan Updates

Comprehensive-BTN

South Fulton’s Department of Community Development and Regulatory Affairs (CDRA) launched the

process last month with a public hearing before city council members. The city has partnered with the

Atlanta Regional Commission to manage the process.

“Every five years, we are required to update our 20-year comprehensive plan. This allows us to be flexible and address issues and opportunities that may have arisen since the plan was created,” said Mayor William “Bill” Edwards. “As always, we want to work alongside residents to ensure everyone has a voice in setting the direction for the city.”

The plan provides guidance for city initiatives in housing, transportation, public works, economic development, public safety, parks and recreation, and others, according to CDRA Director Shayla Reed.

“These are the cornerstones of any city,” Reed said. “The comprehensive plan guides city staff as we work to provide world-class services in these areas.”

The update process will unfold in three phases. During the first phase, officials will address opportunities and challenges facing the city. Next, they will revisit the city’s vision and update its land-use plan before developing a program of work in phase three to address the opportunities and issues and implement the land-use plan.

Two update meetings – on April 14 and June 16 – will allow residents to track the progress of the update. A final report must be adopted by Oct. 31.
