(City of South Fulton, GA – Tuesday, August 25, 2020) –Mayor William “Bill” Edwards and city council members are throwing their full support behind a resolution to help South Fulton residents who are behind on rent because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to the federal moratorium on evictions, which expired in July, the resolution urges federal and state leaders to extend benefits to tenants and homeowners at risk of eviction.

“We want to help our residents in any way we can,” said Mayor William “Bill” Edwards. “People who have experienced job loss due to the pandemic should not have to carry the extra burden of losing their home.” The city council voted unanimously Tuesday to ask federal and state leaders to enact a moratorium to halt evictions for at least six months to financially qualifying tenants, to authorize emergency rental assistance for low-income tenants and delay mortgage payments up to a year for homeowners who are experiencing pandemic-related financial hardship.
