2020-23 Strategic Plan
Strategic planning is the process by which leaders of an organization, such as a local government, determine what the organization intends to be in the future and how it will get there. For a city or other government, including residents - and their needs and desires - is critical. Together, leaders and those they serve develop a vision for the city's future and determining the necessary goals, priorities and action strategies needed to achieve that vision.
A strategic plan serves as a community's roadmap and is used to prioritize initiatives, resources, goals and department operations and projects. The strategic plan is a big-picture document directing efforts and resources toward a clearly defined vision. Plans are usually last three to five years before they are updated.
As a young city, South Fulton developed its first strategic plan over a six-month period between between September 2018 and March 2019. Through more than a dozen public meetings, residents were able to share their individual visions for their city.

The plan sets forth five overall goals to lead that drive as well as goals for individual departments that support the main tenants.
Develop Strong, Healthy Teams
Develop a cohesive, servant-leader environment of trust and cooperation between Council members, staff and citizens; commit to a shared vision while maintaining the epitome of professionalism.
Improve Infrastructure and Solidify Finances
Build and diversify our revenue sources to ensure financial adequacy and stability to reduce dependence on any single source. Invest in infrastructure to provide long-term sustainability.
Increase Community Collaboration and Quality of Life
Strengthen relationships with nearby governmental agencies to strengthen our community and focus on initiatives that improve quality of life.
Create an Efficient Government Provide quality and efficient services to improve the quality of life for residents and businesses. Services include fire, police, parks and recreation, courts, economic development, zoning and land use, public works, and sanitation.
Focus on Economic Development
Promote a healthy and prosperous economy that supports small businesses, entrepreneurs, tourism, and public-private partnerships. Take actions to define the culture and life of the community so it is attractive to others.
The city is highly committed to implementing plans and projects that advance these five strategic focus areas as they address nearly all of the citizens’ concerns and aspirations. The city’s staff has outlined a number of projects and initiatives in the plan that directly impact the concerns that citizens have expressed.
South Fulton was created out of self-determination, giving us a blank slate to create a city of opportunity where our residents feel safe, raise healthy families and build thriving businesses. We indeed are a city on the rise.
