Councilwoman Helen Zenobia Willis was elected as one of the inaugural city council members representing District 3 (the Welcome All and Cliftondale communities) in the newest municipality in Georgia. Her work as a public servant long predates her career as an elected official.
Councilwoman Willis was raised as a granddaughter and daughter of esteemed Chatham County educators and is a third-generation alum of Savannah State University class of 1999 with a bachelor's of business administration degree in accounting. Councilwoman Willis earned her advanced master's degree in accounting and financial management from Keller Graduate School of Management.
Helen professionally began a career in government working for the Georgia Department of Labor and advanced in various roles in the agency under former Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond. She advanced her career by working for eight years for fortune 500 company ADP (Automated Data Processing), and later for the second-largest private company in the United States, KOCH Industries. She was earning an excellent income but was extremely miserable in her career. Then one day, her loving husband encouraged her to run for public office, pursue her passion and become a public servant.
She is married to 34-year veteran of the Fulton County Deputy Sheriff Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Willis, Sr. They have a blended family of 4 children and six grandchildren.
