Major T. Griffin -Criminal Investigations Division
Major Theron Griffin joined the South Fulton Police Department at its inception on March 26, 2018. He has served as a law enforcement officer for more than nineteen years in various capacities and has promoted through the ranks of patrol officer, field training officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and major. Major Griffin oversees the Field Operations Division.
Major Griffin began his law enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff in 2000 with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. He was assigned to the Warrant Services Division and achieved the rank of Sergeant before joining the Union City Police Department in 2002. While employed with the Union City Police Department, Major Griffin achieved the rank of Field Training Officer where he oversaw the successful training of newly hired police recruits. In 2005, Major Griffin was promoted to the rank of Detective where he began conducting all facets of administrative and criminal investigations before joining the Fulton County Police Department 2009.
While with the Fulton County Police Department, Major Griffin served as Administrative Operations Commander where he managed Internal Affairs, Background & Recruitment, Procurement and Fleet Services. Major Griffin was assigned to the Cityhood Transition Team where he managed the South Fulton Police Department’s newly created Court Services Division.
Major Griffin is a graduate of Benjamin E. Mays High School in the Atlanta Public School System. He obtained advanced education at Columbus State University’s Command College, where he attended the two-year Professional Management Program (PMP) in 2011. Major Griffin graduated the program in 2013 earning his Public Safety Professional Management Certification. Major Griffin is currently attending Atlanta Metropolitan State College where he is enrolled in the coveted Moses Ector Law Enforcement Leadership Academy and will earn his Criminal Justice Degree in November 2019.
During his law enforcement career, Major Griffin has obtained 2,284 certified training hours from the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council and has earned his Intermediate and Supervisory Certifications. He is a former member of the National Internal Affairs Investigators Association, Peace Officer Association of Georgia and a current member of Atlanta METROPOL.
