Applicant Processing

Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be subject to a comprehensive background investigation which includes but not limited to:

  • Physical Agility Test
  • Polygraph Examination
  • Psychological Examination
  • Medical Evaluation
  • Drug Screening
  • Oral Interview

If You Are Not a Certified Georgia Peace Officer

If you are not a GA POST-certified peace officer in the State of Georgia, you will attend the basic training course at a designated police academy. The academy is approximately 11 weeks long. Your tuition and supplies are paid for and you will also receive a salary. When you complete the academy, you will go through a Field Training Officer (FTO) Program. This training is to prepare you to use South Fulton Police Department paperwork, computer system, radio techniques, policies and procedures. Upon completion of the FTO Program, you will have received approximately 14 weeks of field training.

If You Are a Certified Georgia Peace Officer

If you hold a basic certification from GA POST, you will attend the FTO Program for approximately seven weeks

If You Are Certified In Another State

Applicants who have received basic training from an academy in a state other than Georgia will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis whether they need to attend the police academy.
